What Indiana Seasons Do to Concrete
Winter is the obvious problem. Moisture works into the pores of bare concrete, freezes, expands, and widens the space it found. Repeat that through a Central Indiana winter and the surface begins to pit and flake, usually starting near the garage door where snowmelt collects. Road salt and de-icers make it worse: they come home in the wheel wells, drip onto the slab, and sit there attacking a surface that is already opening up.
Summer is the problem people miss. Indiana humidity means moisture vapor moves upward through a slab from the ground beneath it, and that pressure builds against anything sitting on top. It is why coatings blister and lift in basements more often than in garages, and why a cheap coating in a finished basement rarely lasts. The floor was not failing from above. It was failing from below.
Our system addresses both. It is fully waterproof with 0.3% water absorption, so seasonal moisture does not get into the slab and the salt tracked in over winter sits on the surface and mops away. It has 120% elongation, so it flexes through freeze-thaw movement instead of cracking. And it is compatible with 350 chemicals, which covers the de-icers, oil, and cleaners a Midwest garage actually sees.
For basements it brings something extra: the basecoat is zero-VOC and completely odor-free. That matters far more below grade than in an open garage, because a finished basement is living space with limited ventilation. It is also non-toxic and BPA-free, and it is warm underfoot compared with bare concrete, which is worth something in a January basement.
Installation is quick. Most floors need only a broom-sweep prep, though some require mild grinding or sanding, and the floor is ready for full use in 24 hours.
